Nurturing the land and waterways

We have pledged to plant 100+ trees endemic to the area - Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata), Karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor), and Marri (Corymbia calophylla) to sustain the incredible diversity of wildlife and bird habitat including Western Brush Wallabies, Western Grey Kangaroos, Emus, Quendas, Quokkas, Laughing Kookaburras, Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos, Purple-crowned Lorikeets, Scarlet Robins, Splendid Fairy Wrens, Tawny Frogmouths, Southern Boobooks, Owlet-nightjars, Western Green Tree frogs and native Blue-banded bees.

We are remediating the natural streams on the property that flow into the Gardner River to encourage diverse aquatic life including Long-necked Turtles, Marron, and Australian Shelducks.

We are working to eradicate weeds such Deadly Nightshade (Atropa bella-donna) and the Arum Lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica).

Restoring the farmhouse

Built in the 1930’s, the timber farmhouse is being restored and will accommodate up to six people. It will include a full size modern kitchen, large open living areas with jarrah floors, fans and a wood heater - all with magnificent views of the property.

A bird and bee friendly rustic kitchen garden is planned featuring everyday vegetables, fruit, herbs and edible flowers.

The farmhouse is ideal for private cooking classes, training and workshops, yoga retreats, artist/writer residencies, farm stays, special events and gallery space.

Sustainable farming practices

We are integrating our livestock with other farming practices and land management techniques to minimise environmental impact and maximise animal welfare.

Our strategies include agroforestry, rotational grazing, precision farming, low-input animal breeds, and improving feed efficiency and waste management.

We collect seeds from our orchard to help maintain genetic diversity and protect the resilience of our natural environment.

From our orchard we harvest fruit and nuts. We also supply flowers, veggies and artisanal foods and gift boxes to local markets, gift stores, corporate events, schools, cafes and restaurants.

Our mission

Hands holding a handful of dark brown, crumbly soil with a small earthworm in it, over green grass

Villam Hortus = garden farm (Latin).

Our mission is to cultivate a regenerative food system that enriches the soil, respects biodiversity, and fosters a deeper connection between you and the food you eat.

We are committed to nurturing the land through sustainable farming practices that honour nature, support our local communities, and produces healthy, chemical-free food that tastes really good.
